BAPTISM
WHAT IS BAPTISM?
Baptism declares that you are a follower of Jesus Christ. It is a public confession of your faith in, and commitment to, Jesus Christ. It is the next step after salvation through repentance and faith and is an important foundation for the Christian life.
For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
Colossians 2:12-14
BAPTISM FAQ's
Every follower of Jesus. Scripture reveals the pattern of someone coming to faith and then being baptized. You should be baptized if you have put your hope and trust in Jesus. We do not have an age limit on baptism. We trust that you best understand the heart of your child and if they have embraced Jesus.
Baptism is not for people with perfect lives. Baptism is the starting line of faith, not the finish line of perfection. Therefore, if you’ve experienced the grace and forgiveness of God, through Jesus, baptism is for you. Don’t wait to get better before going public with what God has already done for you in Jesus!
No. Scripture makes it clear that salvation is found in God’s grace, through faith in Jesus. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves, it is a gift from God that we receive. However, we are commanded to be baptized and it is an important part of belonging to a faith family and going public with our faith.
First of all, it is cool. Secondly, when we fully immerse someone in water it helps us identify with Jesus’s story. Finally, full submersion reminds us of full cleansing and new birth found in Jesus. It also follows patterns found in Scripture. After all, the word “baptism” means immersion. Other methods are valid and good, but this is why we have chosen to “dunk” people.
Your infant baptism is an important and meaningful part of your faith journey. Your parents were asking God to apply His grace and blessing to you. The fact that you are seeking God in this way, reveals that God has been at work in your life. Therefore, you do not need to be baptized again. However, some people want to demonstrate their wholehearted commitment or recommitment later in life. We offer them a chance to either share their story as a confirmation of their baptism on baptism Sunday or to be re-baptized if they so choose.
